Husqvarna Automower Installation at Barossa Valley Estate
We recently had the privilege of installing two Husqvarna Automower 550 EPOS units at the beautiful Barossa Valley Estate - one of the most iconic wineries in South Australia’s Barossa Valley region, known for its expansive gardens and premium visitor experience.

Barossa Valley Estate was actually one of the early adopters of robotic mowing in the region, initially running two wired Husqvarna Automower 450X units. Due to the property layout, the lawns were split by a driveway, leading the client to nickname the mowers Romeo and Juliet - a romantic yet tragic pairing that could never truly meet.

While the 450X models are excellent and time-tested machines, the boundary wire setup began causing issues over time. Whether it was heavy machinery passing through or the reactive clay soil shifting underground, cable breaks became an ongoing challenge. For large, complex sites like this one, wire-based mowing had simply reached its limits.
It was time for an upgrade.
The team selected Husqvarna Automower 550 EPOS - a commercial-grade, wireless robotic mower with a 5,000 m² capacity per unit (based on systematic mowing over 24 hours). Two of these high-performance models were enough to cover both lawn areas efficiently. Plus, the precise GPS mowing patterns created clean lines that enhanced the property's overall visual appeal - particularly around curves and edges.

The full installation took two days and included:
- Mounting a new EPOS reference station
- Installing upgraded charging stations
- Mapping both lawn zones
- Thorough testing and optimisation of the system
The result? One of the largest lawn areas of any winery in the Barossa is now fully automated. The grounds team has saved dozens of hours each month, freeing them up to focus on other horticultural tasks across the estate’s vibrant and diverse gardens.

This installation was completed in collaboration with Valley Power Equipment, the official supplier of the robots and one of the first companies in South Australia to deploy 450X models on a large luxury property.
